Naphta has been most recently known for exploring fantasy worlds as a member of Gaijin Blues, but anima mundi is as important to him as the animation. His Tańce debut was produced in search of universal sounds that can express sadness and helplessness in the face of the incoming climate catastrophe we brought on ourselves. “Dom strawiło” means “the house burned down”. All that’s left is to dance in stupor to a melancholic tune.

Naphta has recorded the rawest EP in Tańce catalog so far, looking for certain emotions in the textures of folk instruments and songs. “Czorta pląsy” mixes contemporary dance rhythms with shreds of vocal samples and dramatic violins. “Dom strawiło” has a lively sound thanks to an extravaganza of tiny percussion sounds. It’s hard to call it carefree though, with a haunting sample the track took its name from and processed ghostlike ocarina turned into an ominous cloud of sound. „Rejwach na kurhanach” blends a female choir with broken beats, while „Pokrzyk” speeds up the tempo to 140 bpm. This could be club music by Polish immigrants from Newark.

Naphta is an alias of Paweł Klimczak, one of the most active people of Polish music scene, a producer and a DJ, an instrumentalist, a journalist and a radio host. Naphta records club music, jazz, and electronic music inspired by Japanese pop culture in Gaijin Blues.
